Another new Smash Character

Pokemon Trainer unleashed

Once again the Smash Dojo blog has unveiled a brand new character that will be appearing in Super Smash Brothers Brawl. The games creator Masahiro Sakurai has been revealing a lot of exciting details, but the last character, Ike, was basically a clone of Marth and Roy which many players found disappointing. This time it's something really different and never before seen in the franchise. The character is The Pokemon Trainer, but he never does the fighting himself! Instead one of three different Pokemon will be on the battlefield at any given time and the trainer will be standing in the background like in the picure above.

The three Pokemon available to fight with are Squirtle, Ivysaur, and Charizard and they switch between each other in that order. I assume these three will be absent from the Pokeballs available to all players in the game, because it would be rather odd to see two Charizards on the screen simultaneously.

Switching between the three Pokemon is accomplished by pressing down and B, just like switching between Sheik and Zelda, but this new character is more complicated than that. Zelda fans too often would play as Sheik and nothing but Sheik, so the Pokemon Trainer has the added facet that if you play as one Pokemon too long it grows weaker. Switching between them quickly however also results in a weakening of the fighter. Mastering the character will be a matter of not just learning three sets of moves, but also becoming familiar with this timing.
