New heatsink (not pictured), rumored price cut

A couple of hot (lol pun intended) news items have surfaced regarding Microsofts X-Box 360 console.

First off there is the upgrade to the cooling of the unit in the new Elite model. A console modder named Ben Heck opened his up and reported "The CPU ’sink is the same as before, because we all know the problem was with the GPU. Now not only is there a heat pipe going over the GPU but the material the heat sink is made out of seems different as well" He went on to bash the old cooling system saying "Originally it was a fairly generic aluminum heat sink that would honestly look more at home in a 486." Hopefully these improvements are well thought through and will eliminate the red ring of doom that has plagued owners of the base model system.

A less concrete, but more exciting bit of news is multiple different advertisements being spotted that were not supposed to become public knowlege. These advertisements show a price cut of $50 for the system leaving the new price at $349.99. The ads from Wal-Mart and Toys R Us will run the week of August 12th, so if you were considering buying one in the next few days I would highly reccomend holding off a bit.
