Awesome news for fans of the City of Heroes/Villans MMORPG franchise. Today NCsoft announced that they have purchased the complete rights to the future of the games and are planning a large reinvestment of resources into the series. NCsofts executive producer Brian Clayton said "With our existing Cryptic and NCsoft team as the core, we will be able to run our current service without any
interruption to our players, expand our studio to deliver triple-A
content, and take City of Heroes to new heights."
Their plans for the games future are really exciting. Multiple expansions and even a sequel are being discussed already. They have promised to "break new ground" in MMORPG gaming, whatever that really means. They already control Lineage and Tabula Rasa in addition to Guild Wars, so they have a huge ammount of influence on the MMORPG market. NCsoft also just partnered with Sony to develop games for the PS3, possibly MMORPG games which is what they are so deeply vested in.
All in all there are a lot of good things on the horizon, especially for current players of City of Heroes/Villans. Any worries that the Marvel and DC superhero MMOs would jeopordize the games future have been officially laid to rest.
