Dues Ex 3 Announced

Eidos plans unveiled

Apparently Crysis has reinvigorated the nanotech driven super solider FPS genre, because Dues Ex has just announced details of their new sequel. Stéphane D'Astous, the general manager at Eidos announced that the third installment of the Dues Ex franchise will be the first project for the newly formed Eidos Montreal game studio. What exactly makes Montreal such a major hub for game design anyway? The development is going to take 24 months according to their schedual, and according to Stéphane it will be a "AAA" game using next generation technology.

That all sounds great and all, but remember how bad the second Dues Ex game was compared to the first? Hopefully this time around they will get the gameplay right and re-establish themselves as leaders in this market. Things have gotten way more competetive since the success of the first game. I wish them luck, but competing in todays multi-billion dollar video game industry is a whole nother ballgame compared to what thing were like when the original game was praised.

Stéphane apparently understands the mammoth potential for their game in the industry, saying "This game was very highly rated at its release in 2000, and we have this great huge mandate to do the third one, and everybody is very excited." They were innovaters in the FPS field in 2000 and have a fan base that remembers it. Here's hoping lightning strikes twice. It will be a long time until we hear more about this project, but I'll keep my eyes peeled and you guys informed of any new information that pops up.
