Eve Online's expansion Trinity had it's release date set for December 5th. All the players with active subscriptions will be able to download this free of charge. This expansion includes a massive graphical upgrade, pushing Eve to the limits of direct x9, as well as many new ships and content for players to explore. Check out the trailer for Trinity
HereThe next addition to the game has also been announced for the future. Called "The Ambulation Project" this forthcoming expansion will add the ability for players to use their characters outside of their ship. These humanoid avatars will be able to own and operate shops on space stations as well as walk around having fashion shows like "casual" MMORPG playes love to do. The question that instantly springs to my mind is if players will be able to fight as their human avatar and PK each other. This would be like an automatic pod kill and I'd imagine a lot of the crazy PVPers in this game would love it.
The concept of a free expansion is something I completely agree with and really like. Monthly updates are supposed to be included with MMORPGs for balance issues, bug fixes, and storyline developments. When companies start working on expansions it's obvious that resources are diverted from the regular patches and players wind up paying for something they aught to be getting anyway. A free expansion shows that the developers want the game to expand and are willing to support its growth. Bravo to CCP; Eve is an excellent game and with this type of development being put into it the population is definitely going to grow by leaps and bounds.
