New from the Smash Dojo is a glimpse into the inovative music system from Smash Brawl for the Wii. Players will be able to choose which songs play durring each stage and can pick up CD items to increase the number of songs available to choose from. No word yet on using personal MP3s in this mix.
The feature is called "my music" and accessing it for a stage opens up the panel pictured above. The player is then able to move those slider bars any way they choose and adjust the frequency each song will play for each particular board. To quote the Dojo article "For songs you’re particularly fond of, you can increase the
likelihood those songs will appear. Then, when you brawl on that stage,
the chance of your preferred songs being played increases. Of course, if you want to, you can limit a stage to only one song, or make every song in the game equally likely to appear. I’ve asked our reputable list of musicians to provide many songs for this particular game. But that’s certainly not because I just wanted to cover all these songs. I’ve asked them to choose the songs that match their personalities and tastes!"
They also announced an item called a CD that will sometimes appear. Grabbing these when you see them will unlock new songs for your music selection. Don't worry about running out of songs to unlock. They said this too "Just so you know, there may be songs from other games that are left as is, without any new arrangement." meaning new songs can potentially be added as new music is created for future games.
All in all I think this is a pretty awesome direction to have gone in . Now instead of just unlocking characters and levels we can also unlock music. More content makes me happy. It's certainly going to be exciting when you are mid fight and a CD appears that you have to scramble for. I just wish ( along with everyone else ) that we could put our own personal MP3s onto the list of songs available. Brawling while listening to our own music through the game would be a dream come true.
