Activision's 2008 Plans

Bond, COD, Tony Hawk, and 2 new GH games

Activision is huge, they are gynormous, they are unstoppable and we all know it. Their game Call of Duty 4 just won the award for the best game of 2007. Their Guitar Hero franchise is the most profitable ever in console history. Their MMORPG World of Warcraft makes more money than many small countries. So where do they go from here? Well yesterday amongst celebration of their record breaking fiscal year they announced a flurry of new games coming in 2008.

First off and most importantly a new Call of Duty is going to be released and will have a Wii version along with a PS2 version in addition to the platforms COD 4 was available on. Activision specifically stated that they had big plans for Nintendo, lamenting the lack of attention they paid to the other major contender in the console war and this is a giant step toward dominating that slice of the market.

Next there is the Guitar Hero franchise, which they plan to release not one but two new titles for between the dates of April 1st and June 30st 2008. They are really milking that one pretty hard huh? Well, until they stop selling like bottled water in New Orleans expect more of the same. "New hardware innovations" were specifically mentioned, meaning get ready to shell out another 50 bucks for a new guitar. Less clicky sounds when you hit the keys would be worth this expenditure in spades in my personal opinion.

Tony Hawk's skating games are getting "re-engineered", whatever that means, and two new super hero games are in the works. Spider-man has a title and a new Marvel Ultimate Alliance sequel is going to come out this year as well. Finally there are the movie tie-in games. One is based on the new James Bond movie "The Quantum of Solace", which is an extrordinarily lame name, but if it is Casino Royal without 45 minutes of boring fake poker I'm going to love it. Kung Fu Panda has a game in the works, as does Madagascar 2, and Monsters vs Aliens.

All in all it sounds like it's going to be another huge year for them, and I didn't even mention Wrath of the Lich King yet.
