English gaming magazine CVG has speculated that Blizzard will reveal specifics regarding the next expansion for World of Warcraft during it's Blizzcon convention. They quote Blizzard's senior community manager Paul Della Bitta who said "Over the next couple of months you'll hear something, if not the next couple of weeks." With Blizzcon opening on August 3rd, expectations amongst the fans are at an all time high.
This would make logical sense because Blizzard previously announced their plans to release expansions at yearly intervals for the next three years. They announced The Burning Crusade, their first expansion, at last years Blizzcon, so according to the time table they themselves laid out the next announcement aught to come at this years Blizzcon, exactly one year later.
Some information about the expansion is already available, because some of the code has already been put into the game in this years patches. Data miners have pulled it all out and discovered some items as well as the setting. Northrend, a frozen area in the North (suprise) on the original map won't use the outlands area at all. Hopefully this will revitalize the zones of the game that have seemed dead and useless since The Burning Crusade became a part of the game.
