Hellgate: London, developed by Flagship Studios - the makers of the timeless classic Diablo, combines the depth of a role-playing game and the combat of a first person shooter. Too many expectations were placed on this unpolished half single player, half MMO action RPG. The lack of depth in both the graphics and storyline are sad.
As an FPS it fails miserably by today’s gaming standards and as an RPG it’s decent but so buggy it’s painful to play. The fact that you have to pay a $10 subscription fee in order to access character slots and additional carrying capacity, makes paying for this game a lot more than what you bargained for. I understand Flagship trying to cash in on the online multiplayer aspect, but making fans of the series have to pay in order to be able to store more gear is just ridiculous.
To make matters worse, the subscription system is “out of order” and is badly in need of a fix. Hellgate doesn’t bring anything new to the table, but it’s decent enough. That said, I liked the idea that the game’s difficulty ranges depending on the skill level of the player. The better you are, the harder the game. This is akin to what was done in Oblivion with equal success.
With hordes of demons and zombies at every turn, you’ll have no problem trying to find your next unsuspecting victim. The overall game experience isn’t bad and replay value is still remarkably high. Mindless hack and slash with infinitely spawning enemies is redefined in this game as “fps and slash”, but the fun of a hack and slash game wears off pretty fast.
Hellgate’s potential is vast and once most of the bugs are fixed, this will no doubt remind players why they started playing in the first place.
Do I recommend this game? Fans of the Diablo series who still live in there mother’s basements
Who should play this game? I wouldn’t pick this game up until some of the bugs are worked out

Well Hellgate hit the important marker right? It came out on Halloween! For a demon game coming out on Halloween is much more important than considerations like having players weapons continue to exist when they log out!
We have all beta tested live games before. Despite some major bugs Hellgate has a ton of potential. The randomly generated areas are something I always liked from Diablo. It’s a mechanic I would love to see developed into new games in exciting ways, but Hellgate seems to basically use it just like Diablo did.
There is also a mechanic where you can upgrade your old items and then continue to use them. I’m kinda up in the air about this. While it’s sometimes nice to build up sentimental value on an item I prefer to just get new better loot. Item decay and even loss is something I really enjoy, so I don’t get sappy with my gear.
The graphics in this game are sweet and I totally dig the part that everyone always seems to forget; the storyline is badass! To me it is Diablo set on earth and you have all types of futuristic gear to fight the demons with instead of just fantasy genre stuff. Fighting demons with guns has not really been this fun since Doom 2.
My favorite aspect so far is being surrounded by enemies in what I consider the basic tank class. You gain a ton of power as more enemies are around. It goes as far as to make you completely immobilized due to all the hellspawn you are engulfed by. Like being surrounded by olthoi or tuskers in AC1 if you ever played it. I love that rush from having to fight your way to safety and knowing that you won’t be there for a while. It’s EXTRA scary in a game with bugs that might cause you to disconnect! To be fair by the time you are reading this the game will have come a long way.
Do I recommend this game? Yes if you want a new game and are into the macabre
Who should play this game? Gamers with a darker side. If you were into Doom and Diablo then check this out if you need a game.

Hellgate London is a perfect example of an over hyped game. Playing this is like pulling teeth. The gameplay is linear and quite pathetic. This game doesn't require any skill whatsoever. The only class worth mentioning is the hunter class (how original)because it enables you to play this sorry excuse of an RPG as an FPS.
Not only is this game linear, repetitive and simple, but your characters move like retards on acid who've been fucked up the ass by Shaq. Steven Hawking has more dexterity. AI is virtually nonexistent--all the monsters basically storm rush you and blast you with typical RPG attacks. Everything in this game looks the same. Maybe if these cocksuckers hadn't wasted all of their money on advertising we would have had a great game. This game was rushed out quicker then the French by angry Germans.
Not only is this game broken and buggy, it also requires you to pay $9.95 a month for a decent online mode and updates which come free with most games. The neat thing about this game is that you can do missions with your friends who were dumb enough to buy this abomination. This game was developed by the same people who brought us Diablo
and it plays a lot like Diablo, but did you forget that Diablo was released in 1996? Why not just collaborate with Blizzard and make Diablo 3? No, instead you ran away like abused whores and made a game that isn't worth spitting on. I would rather drown myself in a bucket of goose cum than play this piece of AIDS infested monkey shit.
Do I recommend this game? I recommend this game to teenage rednecks from Mississippi
Who should play this game? Children with ADD and heavy learning disabilities
