Pirates kicks ass! A game where I can fly my French flag and have the pleasure of looting stupid American kids like ComradePepper's noob ass will never cease to entertain me.
The two of us got together at the office to play for the first time. We tapped a new keg and dove right in. The start really didn't impress me too much with all the reading and talking.
It was overly wordy and boring to be honest. I was about to give it up as worse version of The Witcher with boats, but then it hit me. The two of us were sailing side by side and both had our PVP flags up. I smiled maniacally to myself, got into position, and unloaded on him. You should have heard his girlish yelps! A few others were working over the weekend and they may never let him live it down.
You see, in Pirates the PVP is naval combat and tactics are everything. Not gear or time played, actual naval tactics decide fights. Going up against a retard like Pepper was like shooting fish in a barrel.
12 types of shot are available to take out sails and immobilize, kill crew, or sink the bastard. You get a larger reward if you board and conquer an enemy instead of sinking them. Actual death penalties were refreshing and marks of victory are useful.
Land was added as an afterthought and needs a lot of work. Every mission is to talk!
Do I recommend this game? I do. Try it and see if it sucks you in. You may find it much more fun than anything you have ever played.
Who should play this game? Everyone who thinks it might appeal to them should try the free month.

Pirates of the Burning Sea is a great MMO. It's too bad that most "gamers" are fucking o.Os who would rather get shoved in the boo box then play a PVP driven game these days. The curse of Pirates is that being great is exactly what drives most of the population away.
The game is set in the Caribbean and is all about ship vs ship combat. You choose one of four nationalities; British, French, Spanish, or Pirates. I choose Pirates of course, wanting to get out there and teabag as many European bastards as I could.
Here's where it gets good. Each of the 3 European nationalities controls port towns with valuable resources. Traders can make shipments between them turning a hefty profit, but pirates stand in their way eager to take their cargo or their lives.
When enough ships are sunk near a certain port it becomes contested and PVP options unlock. A growing zone around the port becomes a "pvp zone" until finally the entire town is subject to raiding. The final battle ensues at 10,000 contention points and the port becomes controlled by the winner, until everything eventually resets and the fun begins anew.
The problem I have is there is no "pvp server" with open pvp constantly enabled. Lots of times I as a pirate had to watch a ship sail past because their PVP flag was down. This is truly stupid unrealistic and annoying. Even PvPers come in tiers, make a fucking hardcore server.
Do I recommend this game? Hell yeah, It's actually an MMO with player driven content and world PVP!
Who should play this game? Anyone who enjoyed AC Darktide, Eve Online, or Ultima Online. Anyone who plays WoW and finds it lacking in fun.

Once in a while a disturbing game comes out. No, I'm not talking about blood and guts you silly bear. Pirates of the Burning Sea should have been called Butt Pirates of the Burning Ass. It can only attract two types of players; a lonely middle aged man from Kentucky sitting as his computer playing a faggish nobleman character, or a naive young boy acting out his pirate fantasy in a pirate paradise aimed at a pre-teen audience.
The game is primitive, though it lets you have these intense ship battles that can last for a while. There are no races or classes. Everyone plays as humans divided into nations and are hostile toward each other. For a game clearly aimed at youngsters it is really hard. High level mobs surround the island and the death system is really annoying in this game. As far as land combat goes it is pretty standard and divided into fighting styles.
The game itself has glitches and the combat gets annoying fast. That does not mean young boys won't like it. They will like it because they are not old enough to tell a good game from a bad game. They will also not realize they are fresh meat in a sea full of boy hungry Kentucky man sharks. This is the type of thing the ESRB should weigh heavily when rating a game. Don't they know the little kids are naive and predators will be all over this one?
Do I recommend this game? Absolutely not, it is a haven for pedophiles. Parents beware.
Who should play this game? FBI agents who are looking to get good cred. Chris Hansen.
